You are not the owner of the wealth; you are the caretaker.

One day Kuber (caretaker of the wealth) came to Lord Shiva and Parvati to invite them over lunch at his new home. Lord Shiva avoided the invitation and sent Bal Ganesha on his behalf.

Kuber actually wanted to flaunt his wealth and his newly designed mansion. Bal Ganesha had arrived and was served food. He immediately understood the intention of Kuber about the invite.

The elephant lord started eating and slowly in no time the entire kitchen filled with food was eaten by Ganesha but was still hungry. Kuber, who had all the wealth in the world, couldn’t satisfy Bal Ganesh’s hunger as he demanded more food. Kuber was in a fix. He understood his mistake and immediately ran to Shiva and Parvati and surrendered himself asking forgiveness. Mata Parvati blessed Kuber with some Modak and asked him to serve it to Ganesha. That Modak finally satisfied his hunger.

Through this story Lord Ganesha makes us realise that like Kuber we humans at times have the tendency to keep on flaunting our wealth, possessions, power, connections, and material gains. The fact is Kuber was not the owner of the wealth he was the caretaker. Similarly, whatever wealth we have been blessed with, we are its caretaker, and our job is to utilise it for a meaningful purpose.
